Personal Statement:

Sheila Masters Profile PhotoLife can be extremely challenging for many of us, leaving us feeling lost, hopeless, helpless and not knowing how to deal with life’s situations. This is definitely something that I had become all too familiar in the past. I have been a care-giver for disabled and elderly for much of my life, all while furthering my education and juggling a career. I also became a widowed single mother at the age of 34, while pregnant. All of this life experience is what led me to working in the field of Psychology. I hold a Master’s Degree in Agency Counseling and a Specialist in Educational Psychology and Counselor Education Degree. I went on to obtain my license as a Professional Counselor – Mental Health Service Provider.

I have been working in the Mental Health field for 16 years and have been with Personal Growth and Learning since 2002. My practice is based on an integrative, strength-based, psychodynamic and -educational approach, working to alleviate anxiety, depression, (PTSD) Post-Traumatic Disorder, dissociative disorders, personal and relationship issues and disorders of childhood and adolescence. Some of the techniques use in treatment may include (CBT) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavior Management, Humanistic Therapy, (DBT) Dialectic Behavioral Therapy, Anger Management and Parenting Techniques. I am also trained in (EMDR) Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I work with children, adolescents, adults and families in all type of transitions and/ or dealing with various mental health issues. My practice also consists of court evaluations for custody hearings and working with children in the foster care system. I am an approved paneled provider for many private insurance plans and (EAP) Employee Assistance Programs, including those provided by many of our local employers, state and federal government agencies.

We only have one shot at this Ltfe and was individuals/ are the only ones with the power to decide if we are simply going to settle or are we are going to do what is necessary to become the person we want to be and Live the Lif’e we want to Live.
